Tour Details

This ten day tour is organized to give the best of history, culture, wildlife and modern urban life of Sri Lanka. You will travel around the most sought after tourist attractions of Sri Lanka and gain genuine insights into the history,culture, wildlife and the lifestyle of the island.

The journey will begin with mingling with adorable baby elephants providing an ideal prelude to the rest of the journey which will take you to the medieval cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, Girithale and Sigiriya. The hilly towns of Kandy and NuwaraEliya will remind you of the English countryside with the distinctive European architecture and chilly weather conditions. Following that it is back to the seaside locations of Galle, Bentota giving you the taste of sandy beach and water sporting potential.

The Colombo city tour prior to leaving will make you appreciate the urbanized lifestyle of the island’s commercial capital. The modern shopping complexes seamlessly blended with the cultural and historical monuments giving a unique experience to new travelers.

Day 01 -Airport / Colombo

Airport transfer to a Hotel in Colombo. “Colombo is a fascinating city not only for a comfortable blend of east & west, but also a cozy mixture of past & present. It is the commercial hub of the country & is only 34 Km from the airport. Places of interest are the Galle Face Green, the Fort, Pettah, Town Hall, Independence Memorial Hall etc” Overnight stay in Colombo .

Day 02 -Colombo/Anuradhapura

After breakfast leave to visit Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela. Optional lunch at Dambulla. After lunch visit Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. Dinner & overnight stay at Anuradhapura .Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. This rock cave temple is must for any tourist who visits Sri Lanka. A history, which dates back to the 1st century BC and awarded the first prize for the best photograph at the World Tourism Organization in 1995.Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage: An orphanage, which was built to take care of elephants. This orphanage is situated in the Kegalle district on the Colombo – Kandy high way.

Day 03 -Anuradhapura

After breakfast visit Cultural sites in Anuradhapura. “Anuradhapura lay deserted for hundreds of years, the ruins buried deep in the jungles of the dry zone of Sri Lanka. The visitor might imagine that an explorer had stumbled on the lost city and brought it to light. But Anuradhapura, city of 113 kings was never forgotten to the people of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura is the birthplace of Sinhala civilization & one of the world’s largest archeological sites. It is considered as the greatest monastic city of the ancient world, & was founded in the 5th century BC. The artwork and architecture of Anuradhapura are too numerous to mention; among them are ancient Buddha statues showing the influence of Greek art and also some of the world’s largest “stupas” Overnight stay at Anuradhapura.

Day 04 -Anuradhapura/ Girithale

After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa. Optional lunch at Polonnaruwa. After lunch visit Cultural sites. “Polonnaruwa was the capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to the 13th century AD. This ancient city is today one of the most beautiful centres of this island’s cultural heritage. In its prime, the city, inside it’s 3½ miles strong encircling walls, housed hundreds of thousands of people. The remains of this ancient city comprised of many buildings and irrigation works. The buildings, mainly brick structures, included the inner city area (with two palace complexes of two different kings), inner & outer city walls, a number of monastic complexes with stupas, image houses & dwelling cells of monks. Also contained were refectories, assembly halls (chapter house, bathing pond etc. Overnight stay at Girithale.

Day 05 -Giritale / Sigiriya / Kandy

After breakfast visit to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. After which proceed for Kandy. En-route visit a spice garden. Optional lunch. Visit the Kandy temple in the evening. Sigiriya: This rock of the 5th century AD was a monastery before King Kasyapa built his kingdom. Better known, as the “Lion Rock” is a Citadel rising up to 560ft from the surrounding area. The popular frescoes of the maidens of heaven are found in the caves of this rock. Kandy: (1815-1948) The last and most popular kingdom in the history of Sri Lanka. The British army captured Kandy in 1815 and ruled for almost 133years before the independence of Sri Lanka in 1948. Overnight stay at Kandy

Day 06 -Kandy/NuwaraEliya

Proceed to NuwaraEliya en-route visit a tea factory. Optional Lunch at NuwaraEliya. Evening visit the Hakgala botanical gardens. “The center of the hill country also called the “Hill station” in British colonial jargon. This ruggedly picturesque location almost 6200 feet in elevation with its soft English spring climate is very English in it’s landscape & buildings; which of course was started by the British, who made it their hill resort, during their rule in Sri Lanka.” Overnight stay at NuwaraEliya.

Day 07 -NuwaraEliya /Yala / Katahragama

After breakfast leave for Yala. Optional Lunch at Tissamaharama. After lunch visit Yala national park in Jeeps. Yala Nation Mingling with adorable baby Elephants would certainly provide an ideal prelude to the rest of the journey which will take you to the sacred city of Katharagama. Thereafter back to the seaside locations of Galle, Bentota and Colombo for a city tour prior to leaving for the Airport
Yala Park: The most popular national park in Sri Lanka established in 1938 with a land area of approx 121000 ha. This park is situated in the Hambantota and Monaragala district. It is home for almost all the animals and birds that are found in Sri Lanka. Overnight stay at Katharagama.

Day 08 -Katahragama /Bentota

After breakfast depart for Galle. Visit the Galle fort and popular tourist attractions. Optional lunch at Galle or similar. “The earliest recorded history of the city dates back to the year 545 AD, to the chronicles of the Roman historian, Cosmas. From then on records are very sparse – until the landing of the famous Arab navigator Ibn Batuta. Over the next 100 years, the city was the chief port of the island, for it attracted spice traders. The Portuguese came to Galle in 1505, followed by the Dutch in 1640. When Colombo fell to the British in 1796, the fort was handed over & used as an administrative center, a function which it performs to this day”. Overnight stay at Bentota.
